Wedding

Today was to be the marriage of Josh and Iva. I've known Josh since I was 12. He babysat me and he was my big brother, took me out to places, to eat, to learn.

It's so bizarre to see that he's all grown up from 19 when I met him, and he's ready to settle in with his beautiful wife Iva.

This was my first wedding so I was excited. I woke up in the morning and got ready quite quickly as I had to go back to the dentist to get the concrete buffed down as it was a little too much and gave me a slight lisp.

Old men stared at me as I walked into the clinic - it was so awkward, and I totally understand because WTF would you wear heels to the dentist?!?

I quickly got out of there and messaged Quinton who asked me to meet him at the Asian echelon of Brisbane. I stood outside Quinton's uncle's shop getting raped by people's eyes - especially old men who would slop around near me wearing sandals and clean their teeth making that TSSCHHHT sound whilst looking me up and down.

I felt super dooper uncomfortable. Every second I was out there teared down my self esteem into shreds. Quinton's uncle then noticed me and yelled, "QUICK! GET INSIDE, DEENA!"

I was so thankful so I just sat in the barber chair until gentle giant Quinton and Quinton's sister, Naomi (who is opposite in height) came to my rescue.

We were late so we zoomed off into the city. Turns out that Josh knows his friends well, as we were actually half an hour early - being told a different time.

It was good to see a few familiar faces, actually some people didn't recognize me! The bride was fashionably late but the mass was short and sweet.

Afterwards, we took photos. I didn't want to participate in the bouquet catching but NO ONE was going behind the bride to catch the flowers so I pulled a few people along, and eventually a few ladies nudged along too. Colin and I decided to have a war for the bouquet - here's our fight stance.

I ended up catching the bouquet, but immediately screamed, "NOT FOR ANOTHER TEN YEARS!"

Afterwards, Quinton, Naomi and I went to Campos Cafe on James St for a small bite and tea/coffee. We went back to Quinton's to grab the guitar as we thought we should try and finish our gift song for them.

Naomi and my mum went about and did their own thing together - which is hilarious because I was meant to do those things with my mum (like chose paint, buy flights for mum to see my sister, book hotels etc.)

Quinton and I were still a little stuck so we got distracted by a cover song, but we eventually got back on track.

It was time to run off to the reception. The reception was beautiful - I loved that they kept it small with loved ones. When the groom made a speech (an inebriated influenced one) he addressed every single person in this room and said something. Just showed that every single person in that room was special to the couple.

I heard from a few people that the groom's speech was dead solid the best one they've heard as it was crisp, sharp and straight to the point. There was no waffling, and no argument that he doesn't love the bride. It was very sweet (and also sounded a little angry!).
I photo bombed the guy's photo

For eg. he said a line like, "I PROMISE THAT THERE WILL BE NO OTHER MAN IN THE WORLD THAT CAN TAKE CARE OF MY WIFE. I CAN ASSURE THAT!!!!"

They hired out a photo booth at the corner of the reception so I spammed that machine. I want one for my wedding!! The food was great, the champagne even more greater.

Naomi and I got pretty tipsy. The night was nearing an end so Quinton and I decided that the right thing to do was perform the song live for the couple.

We took the guitar from the car and practiced out on the streets, and finalised the ending right there and then as well.

We wanted to just record it and give him a CD because we're both shy. We decided to hustle the couple into the photo booth and give it to them in there so no one could over hear.

They loved it, but Naomi realised that she forgot to press record so we had to do it again up in their hotel room with the groomsmen and bridesmaids there too. I was actually pretty tipsy so I don't know how I went but oh well, the thought is there!

On the drive home, Quinton told me how his friend was talking about Tiger Airlines being grounded from flying for a week. I thought maybe it was just that one particular flight but yes it did turn out that Civil Aviation Safety Authorities had suspended them from flying. EEEK!

WHICH MEANT THAT MY FLIGHT WAS CANCELLED - and no hope for A WEEK.
To be continued... (as this is now past 12am which means its another new day).
